Stefania Benedetti

Short Bio

Dr. Stefania Benedetti is Researcher at CNR NANO in Modena since 2012. She is active in the field of the experimental investigation of electronic and optical properties of metal/oxide nanostructures for catalysis and energy. She works in the SESAMO Lab with High Vacuum and UHV equipment for the growth and study of nanostructures heterostructures and has close contacts with scientists at large scale facilities (ELETTRA, ESRF, FERMI, NFFA, EFSL) for static, time-resolved or ambient pressure electron spectroscopies.

She got her master degree and the PhD in Physics at Università di Modena e Reggio Emilia under the supervision of Prof. Sergio Valeri. During her postdoc at CNR NANO she spent several periods as visiting scientist at Fritz-Haber-Institut, MPG, Berlin (2005-2010). She has been co-supervisor of 2 PhD thesis of the Physics and Nanoscience School and 7 degree theses in Physics at Università di Modena e Reggio Emilia. She is coauthor of 44 scientific papers on international journals and of 1 book chapter.

Research Interests

  • Experimental investigation at the nanoscale of metal/oxide nanostructures for application in catalysis and energy
  • Electronic and plasmonic properties of metal nanoparticles and interfacial interactions with oxide support; time resolved spectroscopies for the understanding of electronic processes (plasmon excitation and decay, hot electron generation, charge transfer in the picosecond time scale)
  • Structural, electronic and optical properties of doped oxides for optoelectronics
  • Reactivity of reducible oxides for hydrogen dissociation and clean hydrogen production
