Research Interests

  • Photophysical and photodynamic properties of fluorescent natural pigments and evaluation of their possible biomedical application.
  • Molecular basis of the aggregation processes of neurotoxic amyloidogenic peptides responsible for Alzheimer Disease and other neurological pathologies. Study of the inhibitory effect of natural molecules in beta amyloid self assembly.
  • Evaluation and analysis of chromophores as fluorescent probes in order to monitor and study cellular processes.
  • Antimicrobial PhotoDynamic Therapy: action spectroscopy for bacteria photokilling and in vitro validation on standard bacterial strains and clinical isolates; characterization of the physicochemical and photosensitization properties of endogenous porphyrins
