Miki Bonacci

Short Bio

Miki Bonacci is a PhD student in the School of Physics and Nanoscience (SPN) at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (Unimore), under the supervision of Prof. Elisa Molinari. His thesis project is focused on the theoretical and computational study of electronic and optical properties of low-dimensional systems, a class of materials of importance both for applications in nano(opto)-electronics, and for novel fundamental phenomena associated to many-body instabilities such as the excitonic insulator. Miki Bonacci is approaching such phenomena by means of Many Body Perturbation Theory and high-throughput techniques. The thesis is developed in close collaboration with Drs. A. Ferretti and D. Varsano at the Nanoscience Institute of CNR in Modena.

Research Interests

Bonacci’s scientific interests are at the intersection of fundamental materials research and advanced computational methods, consistent with the program that supports his PhD fellowship (Regione Emilia Romagna FSE project “Big data analysis & high performance simulations for materials”). He is a member of the team of the MaX Centre of Excellence for High Performance Computing Applications, devoted to materials modeling, simulation and design (www.max-centre.eu). He is an expert user (and minor developer) of the Yambo Code for first principles simulations of excitations and computational spectroscopies of materials (www.yambo-code.org). He is currently responsible for the development of the Yambo-AiiDA plugin, a python-based interface to manage Yambo inside the AiiDA framework. By doing so, he is becoming an expert developer of high-throughput workflows in materials science.
