Introducing Cnr Nano seventh Activity Report
We are pleased to launch the seventh biennial report of Cnr Nano, offering a comprehensive overview of the institute's achievements and advancements from the years 2022-2023
Continuing the tradition of previous editions, the Activity Report 2024 summarizes is a comprehensive overview of Cnr Nano research and institutional activities over the 2022-2023 two-year period. The largest section of the report showcases the scientific highlights across various research areas, including solid-state quantum technology, nanobiophysics, nanoscale theory, physics and technology of light at the nanoscale, and surface and interfaces. It provides an extensive overview of ongoing projects, published papers, and events organized during this period. A significant focus of the report is the extensive involvement of Nano researchers in several Next Generation EU PNRR projects, including NQSTI, RESTART, THE, ECOSYSTER, and others. This involvement has not only led to the recruitment of fixed-term researchers but has also facilitated the acquisition of state-of-the-art scientific equipment and the establishment of new collaborations. Furthermore, the report highlights the remarkable success in securing funding, with a substantial number of PRIN2020 and PRIN-PNRR projects granted by the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR). Notably, the European Centre of Excellence MaX, coordinated by Cnr Nano, has received its third grant from EuroHPC, ensuring its activities until 2026. The report underscores the Institute's commitment to international excellence, evident through its numerous publications in high-impact journals, including Nature Portfolio Journals. Additionally, the Institute has expanded its staff, currently comprising 73 researchers and technologists, 46 postdocs, and 19 administrative and technical personnel, with the recruitment of seven fixed-term researchers through the Generation EU PNRR projects. During 2022-2023, a total of 230 people has been working in our institute, including PhD and post-doc researchers, (36% female, 64% male) coming from 19 different countries besides Italy. Finally the report includes a glimpse into the vibrant life at Cnr Nano, with updates on personnel, events, and outreach activities within the institute. As we release the seventh Activity Report, we continue a vital tradition dating back to CnrNano's founding in 2010. This report underscores our ongoing commitment to excellence in public research, and the crucial role of fundamental research in driving societal progress and advancing scientific knowledge.
