Semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) emitting within the telecommunication bands are widely regarded as promising building blocks for quantum communication, since they can deterministically generate on demand single photons and entangled photon pairs, with high efficiency.

The exploitation of QDs embedded into nanowires (NWs) has many advantages compared to other types of QDs. Most importantly, the NW geometry allows to combine highly lattice-mismatched materials in defect-free heterostructures, and the final shape of the NW can be tailored to have an efficient photon waveguiding. Moreover, the vapor-liquid-solid (VLS) NW growth mechanism leads to the possibility to control and tune QD features like dimensions, crystal phase, composition, density, and positioning along the NW axis [1].

In this contribution, I will present our results on the growth of InAsxP1-x QDs with tunable composition in InP NWs with optimized waveguide capabilities, developed solely through the Au-assisted VLS growth in a Chemical Beam Epitaxy system [2, 3].
