Axions are hypothetical light and very weakly interacting particles. They are predicted in extensions of the Standard Model of particle physics and they act as candidates for dark matter.
In this talk, after reviewing the motivation for axions, I will discuss some promising strategies for their detection, with a particular emphasis on astrophysical searches.
