Cnr Nano drives the MaX–NCC training school on Advanced Spectroscopy
Cnr Nano leads the online school on advanced spectroscopy (May 5–7, 2026), featuring hands-on training with YAMBO and cutting-edge methods for excited-state materials.

Cnr Nano plays a central role in the upcoming international training school for researchers organized within the MaX Center of Excellence and National Competence Centre Czech Republic (May 5–7, 2026 – Online).

The school focuses on advanced computational approaches in electronic-structure theory and high-performance computing for materials science, with particular emphasis on many-body perturbation theory, including GW approximation and Bethe–Salpeter equation, and excited-state properties of materials.

A central element of the training is the hands on   of the open-source code YAMBO, widely used for the study of quasiparticle excitations and optical properties in complex materials. Notably, Cnr Nano Modena is among the core developers of YAMBO and has provided key contributions to its methodological development.

Cnr Nano will provide a substantial scientific contribution to the program, with a large part of the lecturers and tutors from the institute. The institute’s team includes senior researchers and early-career fellows from the institute: Daniele Varsano, Giacomo Sesti, Andrea Ferretti, Claudia Cardoso, Matteo D’Alessio, Nicola Spallanzani, and Fulvio Paleari.

Through lectures and hands-on tutorials, they will guide participants in state-of-the-art computational techniques for excited-state calculations, fostering expertise in both methodological developments and practical applications within the MaX ecosystem. This strong presence highlights Cnr Nano’s commitment in developing and disseminating cutting-edge methods in computational nanoscience and materials modelling.
